Greetings Fellow Members of the U.S. NavCommSta Londonderry Alumni
Association:
A few items from last month's Alumni Association April Board of Directors
Meeting.
First: Election of Officers of the Alumni Association Board of Directors
for 2006
As called for in the Association By-Laws, new officers for the year are
elected at the first Board Meeting of the year. The initial Board Meeting took
place in April and nominations for board offices were called for and submitted,
resulting in the following: President: Frank Smith; Vice-President: Jim
Sullivan; Treasurer: Ron Spadafora; Secretary: Mike Anderson; Trustee: Dennis
Kolodziej. Ted Nevels, the most recent "Past President" will be asked to
continue in this capacity on the new board.
Second: The Alumni Association Derry Scholarship Program
The Scholarship Committee members are Ron Spadafora and Dennis Kolodziej.
Dennis asked that the following information be included in this newsletter. At
the board meeting: (1) The Committee was delegated the authority to design and
implement a scholarship program to take effect for the years 2006, 2007, 2008,
and to report back to the board with their completed design/implementation
program. Dennis Kolodziej will contact the Western Education Library Board
(WELB), or other relevant institution, to inform them of the Association's
scholarship program for 2006, 2007, and 2008, and to solicit assistance to
develop a mutually acceptable selection process. If this appears to be
unfeasible, an alternative plan may include donating equal amounts to the
following schools: Londonderry, Foyle, Thornhill, and St. Columbs Colleges. (2)
The Board unanimously voted to fund the program in the amount of 1,000 pounds
per year for each of the three years. (3) Board to request voluntary membership
donation to this project, currently called the $500.00 Club, in which donors
commit to giving $100.00 per year for 5 years. Any shortfall will be made up
from the Alumni Association's general fund. (4) Anderson to update website with
Scholarship Program information, and Sullivan to include in future e-mail
newsletter.
Third: A message from our 2006 Alumni Association President, G.F. Frank
Smith.
I would like to inform all members of the Association that at the recent
Board of Directors meeting I was selected as President for the current year
(2006). I have a few comments that I would like to pass on to all of the
members.
As we all know, the reunion in Derry is slowly approaching. In the time
left there are many things that have to be accomplished. First off, the Board
must have the input from its members as to if they plan on attending and how
many tickets they will require for the various events scheduled. It takes time
to arrange for the events, reserved blocks of rooms for the members requiring
them, reserving the different venues for the activities and making the host of
other arrangements necessary. In view of these many requirements, I would like
to ask that those that plan to attend provide Jim Sullivan with this info as
soon as possible.
The Board of Directors in conjunction with the Scholarship committee,
has recently approved a scholarship program for Derry Schools and will be
effective starting with the current year (2006) and run for the next three years
initially. I might add at this point that if any members wish to donate to the
scholarship program they may do so by contacting Ron Spadafora. Any amount that
you wish to donate will be greatly appreciated and put to good use in the
program.
The association website is being updated and as the reunion nears more
info will be made available for planning. Many members have changed servers in
the past and we have many addresses that are not up to date. If you have changed
servers and have not notified the website manager, then please do so in order
that we may update our records. Hopefully you will receive a notice via US Mail
asking this same action be initiated by you.
In closing I would like to wish everyone the best for the rest of the
year and will see you all in Derry in 2007.
G.F. Frank
Smith
Lastly, once the full Minutes for the April Board meeting have been
approved as written, they will be disseminated to "all hands" and available for
viewing on the Alumni Association web site.
All the best, Jim "Sully" Sullivan, (RM, 64-65) Vice President, U.S.
