Obituary
L. Edward Westberry, 77, passed away at his home in Valdosta on Friday, January 6, 2017. Born in Alma, Georgia, on March 15, 1939, he was the son of the late Lawton and Macie Westberry. He graduated from Patterson High School, Patterson, Georgia, and joined the U.S. Navy, retiring after 30 years of service as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. Formerly of Brandon, Florida and the Waycross area Mr. Westberry moved to Valdosta in 2006. He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church, and a longtime member of the American Legion. He loved visiting with Friends and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors are his son, Michael Westberry of Virginia and his daughter, Lois K. Hayes of Valrico, Florida; grandchildren, Thomas Riotto, Daniel Riotto, Nicole Moreno, Danielle Westberry, Sean Westberry, and Jessica Hayes; sisters, Charlene Vaughn, Bobbie Davis, Gloria Crosby and Frankie Murphy; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Westberry was predeceased by his twin sons, David Westberry and Kirk Westberry, a sister, Sarah Harris, and a brother, Alex Westberry.
By his request, Mr. Westberry's final disposition will be by burial at sea in the Strait of Magellan.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on February 4, 2017, in Valdosta, at the Lighthouse Baptist Church.
