Luther F. "Buddy" Smoak
1938 - 2009
Luther Frederick Smoak, 70, of Longview passed away July 22, 2009.

He was born Oct. 5, 1938, in Orangeburg, S.C., to Asbury and Linnie Dru (Hutto) Smoak. He graduated from Winyah High School in Georgetown, S.C., in 1957 and from Clemson University in 1966.

Buddy served in the Navy from 1957 to 1961 based in Derry City, Northern Ireland. He retired as an electrical engineer with North Pacific Paper Company in the early 1990's. Buddy enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a kind and generous friend.

He married Harriett May Heaney April 22, 1962, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She survives him at home. Also surviving are three children and their spouses, Shawn and Kelly Smoak of Toledo, Russell Smoak of Longview and Sonya and Rusty Hargrove of Newport, Wash.; two sisters, Phoebe Blackston of Greenville, S.C., and Barbara Davis of Conway, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Cascade Northwest Funeral Chapel at Green Hills Memorial Gardens & Crematory with Pastor Bob Giles officiating.
